UNEMPLOYMENT LWA $400 & $300 UPDATE 09/10/2020 (PAY DAYS FOR ALL STATES!)

FEMA has announced the LWA funds will be gone soon. Even though FEMA initially only guaranteed 3 weeks of funding this aligns perfectly with initial calculations that the 44 billion dollars of reallocated funds would probably last four to seven weeks depending on participation. We have now heard this announcement as we enter the sixth week since FPUC expired. You may receive three to six weeks of benefits; some will receive more than others it just depends on how quickly your state applied and was able to distribute funds.

This serves as a reminder that the executive memorandum was only a temporary solution to enhancing unemployment provided by President Donald Trump’s efforts to reallocate funds when congress did not issue new funds. We are currently looking to congress to pass another stimulus package that will include in it a longer-term solution such as an extension of FPUC like we initially saw from the CARES Act.

Today the Senate will be voting on their new “targeted” or “skinny” bill that included in it an extension of the FPUC benefits. The bill proposed FPUC at $300 per week until the end of the year, to be applied retroactively and back paid from the expiration of the first FPUC. It did not mention extracting LWA benefits so this could simply be additional funding for you unless they do deduct it later.

One state is pending approval: Nevada. And South Dakota is the only state that has opted out.

Now for the new states approved by FEMA.

All states approved for LWA will receive $300 per week except for Kentucky, West Virginia, Vermont, and Montana (Kansas was on the list, now they are saying they won’t be) who have officially announced they will be contributing an additional $100 per week to the LWA program so their unemployed receive $400 per week.

To be eligible, according to the executive memorandum, you must collect $100 or more per week from your unemployment benefits before taxes to receive LWA. Unlike FPUC where everyone was eligible who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, LWA you must have lost your job due to the pandemic and receive $100 per week or more.

As updates come out, I will be sure to share.
