John Schneider and Pete Carroll have gained a reputation in swinging big for talent. In the past, the Seattle Seahawks traded for Percy Harvin, Jimmy Graham, and signed risky free agents like Josh Gordon. Recently, the Seahawks made another huge splash trading for New York Jets’ safety Jamal Adams. This was a blockbuster trade sending the Seahawks’ next two first round picks, a third rounder, and starting safety Bradley McDougald to the Jets in exchange for Adams and future fourth rounder. Needless to say, Seattle is banking on this trade to elevate their defense to give the team another shot at a Super Bowl.

After Adams was drafted out of LSU back in 2017, it didn’t take long for him to ascend into the elite ranks of safeties in the NFL. In his three short seasons, he was a two-time team captain, made the Pro Bowl twice, and was also named to Second-team and First-team All Pro honors in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Adams has been nothing short of amazing lining up in pretty much every single defensive spot and coverage for the Jets.

In my latest film room, I took a deep look at his role in the Jets’ defense, how that translates to the Seahawks’ scheme, and gave my general thoughts on the trade. Jamal Adams is a fantastic player, but the question that we have to answer is if his play will elevate the defense enough overcome the lack of future draft capital.
